What if I run out of refills?

Why was my prescription delayed or denied?
Delays are often due to insurance issues, drug shortages or missing information. We’ll troubleshoot on your behalf and keep you in the loop.

Controlled Medications

What do I need to pick up a controlled medication?
Please bring a valid photo ID. For safety, we follow all NY State dispensing rules.

Do you carry specialty or refrigerated meds?
Yes. Let us know in advance and we’ll coordinate storage and pickup.

Can I have my controlled medication delivered?
Due to regulatory requirements, controlled substances must be picked up in person. However, we can help with any other medications or offer other delivery options.

How do I refill a controlled medication?
Refills are only available if authorized by your prescribing doctor. We recommend contacting us in advance to ensure timely processing, as some controlled medications may require additional verification before refilling.

Medication Management

What’s the difference between brand-name and generic?

Here’s a small chart to help you understand the difference.

Overall, generics work the same as brand name drugs but cost less—and we’ll always check if one’s available.

What does “take with food” really mean?

You should be taking the medication during a meal or with some type of snack. This helps avoid nausea and boosts absorption. Ask us if you're unsure. Accidentally missed a dose? Don’t double up—call us or check the label for what to do..

How long are my eye/ear drops good for after opening?

Most drops expire 28 days after opening, even if there’s liquid left. Always check the label or ask us if you're unsure.

Why do I feel like my drops never last?

You’re not alone—this is a common concern. The reason often comes down to how insurance companies estimate the supply. There’s no universal formula: some use 15 drops per milliliter (mL), some use 18 and others use 20. But in reality, the actual number of drops can vary based on the bottle, how you administer the drops, and even how carefully you squeeze.When in doubt, we recommend using 20 drops per mL as a safe estimate. And if you feel like you're running out too soon, let us know—we're happy to help troubleshoot or reach out to your provider if needed.

Safe storage:

For refrigerated medication, it's best to follow the following:
• Store at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C)
• DO NOT FREEZE
• Avoid storing on the fridge door
• Keep clean and separate from food (to avoid spills and contamination)
• Pay attention to expiration dates

Proper disposal:

Bring expired meds to us—we’ll dispose of them safely in our Drug Disposal Bin.

 Accepted Medications:
•Prescription Medications: Both controlled and non-controlled prescription drugs.
•Over-the-Counter Medications: Medications you can buy without a prescription.
•Liquid Medications: Liquid medicine bottles (less than 4 ounces) in a resealable plastic bag.
•Pills, Liquids, Patches, and Creams

Items NOT Accepted: 
•Sharps (Needles and Syringes): These should be disposed of at hospital-based collection programs or other designated locations, not in the DEC take-back bins.
•Illegal Drugs (Schedule 1)
•Medical Devices and Batteries
•Aerosol Cans and Inhalers
•Chemicals and Mercury-Containing Devices

Insurance & Pharmacy Basics

How do copays and deductibles work?

Copay: A set amount you pay for each prescription (like $10, $20 or $35), determined by your insurance/health-plan.

Coinsurance: A % of the drug cost (like 20% of a $100 med = $20) that you're responsible for based on your chosen insurance plan. .
Deductible: The amount you must pay out-of-pocket each year before insurance starts covering costs. We’re happy to help explain your coverage anytime—just ask!

How does prior authorization work?

Some medications require extra insurance approval. We’ll handle setting up the process to speed up communication between your provider and insurer, though it may take a few days. If delays continue, we may need you to follow up with both sides to help move things along.

How long does it take to fill a prescription?

Most prescriptions are ready in 15–20 minutes, but timing can vary based on various drug restrictions, Prior Authorizations, Control Medication, etc. Text us ahead of time for the quickest service!

Who pays for my prescription?

Usually a mix of:
You (copay/out-of-pocket), your insurance, & discounts or manufacturer savings (which we check for you!)
